Greetings!
How is everyone today? I'm a brand new man after some serious sleep last night! We had a great time at the 3rd annual San Diego Spirits Festival. So great that Fernanda needed the car ride home to rest her eyelids! :) I have some photos I'll work on posting soon. In the meantime, Monday has arrived and it's time to start focusing on Burlap as well as an afternoon of education. The USBG (United States Bartending Guild) is having it's monthly meeting this afternoon at URBN. We will be learning about gin from some industry experts. I'm looking forward to it! And then tonight I need to spend some time working on my back bar liquor selection. Burlap is approaching quickly! That's it for now...
Cheers!

Quick turn-around
Sometimes as a bartender, sleep becomes an inconvenience. Especially in my situation, where I have family waiting for me and things to do. Today after a long week and a late night last night, we are up early after a quick 5 hours of sleep to head downtown to the San Diego Spirits Festival. It will be my first time to the event and I'm looking forward to it! We'll see a bartending competition and I'm sure many of the vendors that I deal with on a weekly basis. The babysitter just left with the kids, and now I'm going to hurry up and wait (per usual) for Fernanda to find something to wear. The sun is shining and it looks like its going to be a great day, despite a quick turn-around!
Cheers!

Another Long One
Time to sling....
Hey there.. Today was another long day of all things bar related. Started with some work at a research company downtown. I was asked to take part in a study put on by a vodka company. They brought in three of us bartenders from around San Diego for a 90 minute discussion on the current trends of vodka sales and drinkers. The other two bartenders where from establishments that are nearly polar opposites of Searsucker. A gay bar in Pt.Loma and a lesbian bar in Hillcrest. Talk about different perspectives! Bartending is a broad field that encompasses many different types of people. The moderator compared us to Anthropologists. Not quite sure if that sticks or not, but after hearing these other two bartenders talk simply about the different trends they see in their places made me realize that what is true for me might not be true just across town. Good lessons learned!
Then it was on to the restaurant two hours early for meetings. A lengthy tasting for some potential new product at Burlap and then a sit down with my boss. All before my shift! Finally home around 3:30 am, and now at 4:30, it's time for bed! Big day tomorrow...so until then...
Cheers!

The Beginning
I’ve been wanting to get this blog off the ground for several months now. That desire has increased over the past several weeks as my work has drawn me deeper into the world of which I want to blog about. Of course like many others, finding the time to devote to writing is difficult. The busier I am the more I have to write about, and therefore the less time to write! Conundrum anyone??
So here we go with what I hope will be a fun and revealing journey into all things libation oriented. Stay tuned…Cheers!
